Arthroscopic Excision of Wrist Ganglion Cyst by Dr. Badia
A Ganglion cyst starts when fluid leaks out of a joint or tendon sheath (tunnel) and forms a firm swelling beneath the skin. The cause of the leak is generally unknown, but can be treated via open incision, or arthroscopically as seen in surgical video below.
Advantages of arthroscopy compared to open ganglionectomy:
- Smaller incisions
- Minimal soft tissue trauma
- Less Pain
- Faster recovery time
- Low infection rate
- Less scarring
- Earlier mobilization
- Outpatient procedure (you can go home right after)
- Allows better visualization
- Easier identification of intra-articular pathologies
